With the String Quartets op. 76, Joseph Haydn had reached the pinnacle of his art. It is therefore hardly surprising that the members of the Quatuor Arod had the wish to let their interpretation of these six masterworks be heard not only during concerts, but also on disc. With the latest release of the French top ensemble, this wish becomes reality: after albums with core works from the string quartet repertoire - from Mendelssohn to Ravel, from Schubert to Debussy and an atmospheric Bach project - the four musicians present themselves with their Haydn recording as excellent interpreters of music from the end of the 18th century. The quartets op. 76, composed in 1797 and 1798, with evergreens such as the "Emperor Quartet" or the "Sunrise", are among the most famous works ever written for this ensemble. "They represent Haydn in all his maturity, creativity and mastery (...) and form a turning point in the history of the quartet as a genre," is the conviction of Quatuor Arod, which was founded in 2013 and has belonged to the international top of chamber music ensembles since winning first prize at the ARD competition in 2016. In order to come closer to the subtle lightness of Haydn's musical language in their recording, the four musicians specially ordered bow hair based on historical models - with a fantastic result: "The articulation became more natural, the response more flexible, the sound more transparent."
