More info
On her third album Shape of My Heart, guitarist Laura Lootens draws one red thread through two centuries and multiple continents: a romantic sensibility that never stopped resonating — and that finds her unexpected outlet in a pop icon.
The spark arose from a teenage discovery. Lootens, born in Munich, heard in the global hit Shape of My Heart by Sting (°1951) something suddenly familiar: harmonically, the song turned out to be a close relative of Frédéric Chopin (1810–1849), built from the same floating sounds. On this album she follows that thread, from Chopin via Agustín Barrios Mangoré (1885–1944), Johann Kaspar Mertz (1806–1856) and Sérgio Assad (°1952) to the chansons of Marguerite Monnot (1903–1961) and Gérard Jouannest (1933–2018), and ultimately to Sting.
