This second volume of chamber music by Johann Nepomuk Hummel takes us into the elegant and virtuosic sound world of the early 19th century. The refined Variations on a Romance from Méhul's opera Une Folie stand alongside the three Sonatas op. 5, originally written for violin or viola and here performed in historically widespread flute transcriptions, and the sparkling Valse favourite, a charming example of the performance practice of that era. Flutist Eduard Sánchez stands for a finely modeled tone and depth of expression, pianist Enrique Bagaría for sensitivity and mature technique.
