Elektric Dowland

At the end of 2024, Stef Paglia was given a challenge: Jelle Dierickx (former director of Festival van Vlaanderen Mechelen/Kempen) asked him to compose a contemporary interpretation of John Dowland. With Stef's background as a blues/rock guitarist, this was a substantial challenge. He decided not to make a copy of Dowland's work, but instead let himself be inspired by his melancholic sounds. The result is an instrumental meditation on electric guitar, a unique mix of classical influences and modern soundscapes.
Listeners are invited to step into a world of echoes from the past that resonate on the electric guitar.
The project had its premiere in 2025 during the Lunalia Lift Off in the Predikherenkerk in Mechelen. From September 4, 2026, it will also be available to listen to digitally everywhere.
