Barry Douglas has built an impressive international career since winning the gold medal at the International Tchaikovsky Piano Competition in Moscow in 1986. He is a highly sought-after soloist, concert pianist and chamber musician and has performed with most of the world's leading orchestras. As artistic director of Camerata Ireland, Ireland's only fully Irish orchestra, and the Clandeboye Festival, he celebrates his Irish heritage. "Celtic Nocturne" features nocturnes by John Field, traditional Irish melodies and three compositions by Barry Douglas himself, all of which have the lyrical, melodious character that characterizes Irish music. Douglas' love for - and attachment to - this music is evident from the start; his instinctive musicality and lyricism come fully into their own. The resulting album, the third in his Celtic music series, is a delightfully engaging and enriching experience.
