Vincent Munier
Vincent Munier (Épinal, 14 April 1976) is a French nature photographer. The rugged nature of his birthplace the Vogezen region remains an ideal working environment for him.
Munier started photographing at the age of twelve. After an incomplete agricultural education, he worked for several years at the local newspaper L'Est-Republicain as a press photographer. During this time he developed his photography work, which in 2000 resulted in a major nature photography prize: the Eric Hosking award from the BBC Wildlife competition. He also won that prize in 2001 and 2002. This has never happened before in the history of this photography competition. Many other photography prizes followed.
The Vogezen remained an important working area for him. In addition, he made trips to Finnish Lapland, Hokkaido in Japan, the Bale mountains in Ethiopia, Kamchatka in Eastern Russia, and arctic Canada.
In 2007, Munier became a member of the International League of Conservation Photographers, an association of professional nature photographers who fight for nature conservation through their work. For the European photo project Wild Wonders of Europe, Munier went to Norway in 2008 and 2009 to photograph musk oxen and wild reindeer. 69 professional nature photographers from all over Europe participated in this project. On the cover of the accompanying book Wild Wonders and the special edition of the magazine National Geographic (May 2010), a photograph of musk oxen in the snow (taken by Munier) was featured.
