Samuel Hasselhorn

Samuel Hasselhorn (Göttingen, 15 May 1990) is a German classically trained singer. Hasselhorn has a baritone singing voice. He is the winner of the Queen Elisabeth Competition (2018).

Samuel Hasselhorn studied in Hannover at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien with Marina Sandel and Jan-Philip Schulze and at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris with Malcolm Walker, Susan Manoff, Anne Le Bozec and Jeff Cohen. He furthered his studies with master classes from, among others, Kiri Te Kanawa, Thomas Quasthoff and Helen Donath.

In opera he performed roles including Herr Fluth in Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor by Otto Nicolai, Guglielmo in Così fan tutte by Mozart, Aeneas in Dido and Aeneas by Henry Purcell, Masetto in Don Giovanni by Mozart and the lead role in Der Kaiser von Atlantis oder Die Tod-Verweigerung by Viktor Ullmann.

Since August 2018 he has been employed as a singer at the Vienna State Opera.

First prize winner at the Internationalen Schubert Wettbewerbs 2013 in Dortmund, together with pianist Takako Miyazaki. The duo performed their debut recital in 2015 at deSingel (Antwerpen).
