Artist
Arthur Jussen
Lucas Jussen (Hilversum, 27 February 1993) and Arthur Jussen (Hilversum, 28 September 1996) are two Dutch brothers who have been active as pianists since their youth and often perform together as a duo worldwide. They come from a musical family; their mother Christianne van Gelder is a teacher of transverse flute, and their father Paul Jussen is a timpanist in the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest.
The brothers are pupils of piano pedagogue Jan Wijn. They received regular lessons from Maria João Pires. Their first teacher was Leny Bettmann who introduced them to Maria João Pires. They played with pianists Ricardo Castro and Lang Lang. On 30 April 2005 they played in the Ridderzaal at the 25th anniversary of the reign of Queen Beatrix. On 24 November 2006 they performed at the ages of thirteen and ten Mozart's Concerto for two pianos KV 365 in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw with the Radio Kamer Filharmonie under the direction of Jaap van Zweden. On 30 November 2009 they performed there with the same orchestra under Michael Schønwandt and played the Concerto for two pianos by Francis Poulenc. On 12 March 2010 the brothers signed a contract with Deutsche Grammophon.
After two years of study with Menahem Pressler in the United States, Lucas continued his studies from October 2013 with Dmitri Bashkirov at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid. Arthur continued secondary school and studied further at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Jan Wijn.
